Thread Count is the number of threads per-square-inch of fabric.
Warp and Weft are the technical terms for the two types of thread used to create a fabric. The warp is the tightly stretched lengthwise core of a fabric. The weft or filler thread is woven between the warp threads.
Different Cotton Weaves
- Sateen Weave has a stitch of four threads over and one thread under placing most threads on the surface making the fabric appear lustrous and smooth.
- Percale Weave is crisp, cool, ultra-breathable and feels comfortable against the skin no matter what the weather. It has a casual, no-sheen finish and is more prone to wrinkles than other weaves.
- Flannel Weave uses a unique brushed technique that makes the fabric soft to the point of plushness and creates a warm comfort.
- Twill Weave is a distinctive diagonal weave with a visible pattern and texture. It’s uneven surface helps mask dirt and stains making twill the perfect fabric for hard-wearing items like bags, shoes, furniture upholstery and clothing.
